Ffestiniog Railway Victorian Weekend

Ffestiniog Railway Victorian Weekend

On Sunday 4 October, the band headed to a rather drizzly Tan y Bwlch Station to perform as part of the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways’ Victorian Weekend.

We opened our set with a lively performance of Maryland, followed by a varied repertoire that included David of the White Rock, performed by our principal cornet, and the first movement, Seventeen Come Sunday, from the English Folk Song Suite.

One of the highlights came when a Chelsea Pensioner stepped up to conduct the band for one of our pieces. Her infectious energy made it a memorable moment for everyone.

There was an even more special moment when Gwen was presented with this year’s Most Promising Young Player trophy. A very well-deserved congratulations to Gwen, who plays tenor horn and percussion and also helps with our junior band.

The rain certainly didn’t derail our enjoyment of the day though. We were delighted to be part of this popular annual heritage event, entertaining visitors and adding to its special atmosphere.
